Privacy Policy
BITS IT Support is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under Australian privacy law.
1. Overview
BITS IT Support, a wholly owned subsidiary of Accel IT ("BITS", "we", "us" or "our"), respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you visit businessitsupport.au, contact us, or engage BITS for IT services. By using our website or providing us with your information, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us. This may include:
- Name, business/company name, email address and phone number submitted through our contact form
- The content of any message, enquiry or support request you send us
- Contact and technical details of client staff, where reasonably necessary to deliver managed IT, cyber security, cloud, VoIP or project services under a service agreement
- Standard technical information collected by our web server, such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited and referring page
We do not knowingly collect sensitive information (such as health or financial information) through our website. Where sensitive information is required to deliver a specific service, it will only be collected with your consent and as part of a separate service agreement.
3. How We Collect It
We collect personal information directly from you when you submit our contact form, call or email us, or engage us for services. Where BITS provides managed IT services to a client organisation, we may also collect personal information about that client's staff directly from the client, as necessary to deliver the agreed services.
4. How We Use It
We use personal information to:
- Respond to enquiries submitted through our website or by phone/email
- Provide quotes, proposals and IT support, cyber security, cloud, VoIP and project services
- Administer and manage our relationship with clients, including invoicing and account management
- Maintain the security, performance and functionality of client and BITS systems
- Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
5. Disclosure to Third Parties
We may disclose personal information to trusted third parties only where reasonably necessary, including:
- IT vendors and platforms used to deliver services (e.g. Microsoft 365, cloud hosting providers, security and backup platforms)
- Our website hosting provider and email service, for the purpose of operating businessitsupport.au and responding to enquiries
- Professional advisers (such as accountants or legal counsel), where necessary for BITS' own business operations
- Government or regulatory bodies, where required by law
We require third parties who handle personal information on our behalf to protect it in a manner consistent with this policy.
6. Cookies & Website Data
Our website may use essential cookies required for basic functionality (such as remembering your navigation preferences). We do not currently run third-party advertising or analytics cookies on this website.
If we introduce analytics, remarketing or advertising tools in the future (for example, Google Analytics or Google Ads), we will update this policy to disclose what is collected and how you can opt out, and will seek consent where required by law.
Our web server, in the ordinary course of operation, automatically logs technical information such as IP addresses for security and performance monitoring. This is standard hosting-level logging, not user tracking or profiling.
7. Storage & Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes restricting access to personal information to staff who need it to perform their role, and using reputable, security-conscious hosting and email providers.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
8. Overseas Disclosure
Some of the third-party platforms we use (such as Microsoft 365 and other cloud service providers) may store or process data on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure those providers apply data handling practices consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
9. Access & Correction
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 12. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and may need to verify your identity before releasing information.
There is no charge for making a request, although we may charge a reasonable fee to cover the cost of retrieving and providing information in some circumstances, as permitted under the Privacy Act.
10. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or mishandled your personal information, please contact us using the details in Section 12 so we can investigate and respond.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. The current version is always available at businessitsupport.au/privacy-policy. Material changes will be reflected in an updated "Last updated" date above.
